3/2/2018 William Barton's Music Opens Faux Dundee Trailer, Superbowl Audience of 110 Million

The music of Australia's finest traditional didgeridoo player – William Barton – opens Tourism Australia's new advertising campaign featuring Australian talent Margot Robbie, Chris Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Paul Hogan, and has become one of the most talked about advertisements of all time.

The spot – which strategically launched under the teasing guise of a trailer for the faux film "Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home" – features William Barton’s work 'Birdsong At Dusk' (the title track from his 2014 ABC Classics album and published by G. Schirmer) in the opening shot as it pans to Mick Dundee’s long lost American son standing atop the Australian ranges. Listen to the track here.

The vocal snippet heard to kick off the satirical advertisement is an evocative chant, performed by the ARIA Award-winning composer himself, adding a spiritual element to the comedic affair. Tourism Australia had everyone guessing about the cleverly manipulated campaign until the big reveal at Superbowl LII where the video was seen by an audience of more than 110 million people.
