Bio

Honoured as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit in October 2014, Tandis Jenhudson is a composer, musician and producer whose work encompasses that of film, television, theatre and songwriting across many genres.

He scored John Akomfrah’s 2014 BAFTA-nominated ‘The March’ narrated by Denzel Washington. It features interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte, with Robert Redford serving as executive producer. Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the ‘1963 March on Washington’ this BBC/PBS documentary recounts the events that lead up to this historic march that culminated in Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech.

Most recently in 2014 Tandis has completed scoring a National Geographic documentary that celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Hubble Telescope. Due to premiere in 2015, it marks his first collaboration with BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Christopher Riley (‘In The Shadow of the Moon’). Tandis has also just completed the soundtrack for ‘The Treehouse’ a dark fantasy drama, by frequent collaborator Amy Coop, that is part of the iShorts scheme supported by BFI/Creative England.

In 2012 Tandis scored the acclaimed feature ‘Shadows of Liberty’ directed by Jean-Philippe Tremblay and featuring Julian Assange, David Simon and Danny Glover. Produced by DocFactory and The Bertha Foundation, this cinematic documentary explores America’s ‘corporate-controlled’ media. Nominated in Berlin as Most Valuable Documentary at the Cinema for Peace Gala (alongside the Oscar-winning ‘Searching for Sugarman’) it also received official selection in film festivals worldwide including IDFA, HotDocs and Sheffield DocFest.

Tandis also scored the feature documentary ‘Little Stars of Bethlehem’ narrated by Stephen Fry. This playful fly-on-the-wall film captures the events of an infant school during the Christmas holiday season. It was selected for the Breakthrough Strand of London UK Film Focus and will receive it’s UK television premiere this year.

Tandis was born in Clapham, London in 1979 and is of mixed Thai-Iranian heritage. Largely a self-taught composer, he followed an unorthodox path into the world of music. Although he initially trained as a classical pianist, he ultimately went on to study Medicine at University College London (UCL) graduating in 2004 and later specialising in Psychiatry. It was during his time at UCL that a chance encounter led to him scoring his first film.

He is published by EatonMusic/MusicSales, home to Philip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi, Alberto Iglesias and Michael Nyman.
